Mark Platford lived at Mill Cottages set above Hempstead millpond.
When George Knights sold the cottages off in around 1946, they were converted to a single dwelling, now known as Hawksmere

Mrs Platford used to take in washing and did ours from Brownwood. Probably up until about 1940.
